The role
As a chemical market expert you will develop and maintain knowledge and understanding of upstream markets, processes & technologies, suppliers, production assets, trade flows and supply / demand drivers of materials in the portfolio. Furthermore you will establish and maintain relationships with third party and internal sources of intelligence as well with an internal stakeholder network for the materials in the portfolio.
Participation in the development of sourcing strategies for key raw materials is one of your responsibilities and to provide and enable timely and accurate price forecasting and commentary for businesses to enable margin foresight and management
Typical Challenges
Creation of actionable procurement insights from (incomplete) supply market data fragments and sometimes conflicting stakeholder needs. You will start the role from the ground up and build value as an expert to create competitive advantage for Nouryon and building trustful relationships among the wide stakeholder group as well as consistent delivery of promises!
Responsibilities
- Create competitive advantage for Nouryon through better and faster commercial decisions and actions for raw materials and associated finished products
- In conjunction with Energy buying teams, develop and maintain expert understanding of markets for natural gas, oil, and coal & their relationships with the chemical building blocks for Nouryon value chains & raw materials
- Develop and maintain unique expert understanding of markets for upstream building blocks of Nouryon value chains and raw materials including syngas / methanol, ethylene, propylene, butanes/ butenes, aromatics, chloralkali, cellulosics and natural oils and fats.
- Take functional leadership in developing an independent forward looking ‘point of view’ of price trends for upstream building blocks
- Develop forward looking & actionable insights for upstream markets
- Translate upstream insights into actionable knowledge for business leadership teams, BU procurement directors and raw materials category managers
- Provide knowledge and insight in the raw material markets to senior business stakeholders
- Lead raw material category managers to better savings outcomes and forecasting accuracy
Requirements
What Do You Bring To Our Table
Job Requirements
- University or Master degree level education
- Minimum five years’ experience in chemical trading or strategic analysis in the chemicals sector
- Good knowledge and understanding of the chemical supply chains relevant to Nouryon, including trends in those markets and their potential impact on sourcing strategies.
- Excellent communicator, both in communication with specialists and with main stakeholders.
- Stress resistance, flexible, problem solving attitude.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in providing insights and intelligence based on large amounts of structured and unstructured data.
- Seen by others as credible, trustworthy, and open to new ideas.
- Excellent personal integrity and ethical and moral standards
- Strong analytical skills: highly numerate, structured and accurate.
